Talanoa Mai is an interactive learning resource designed for Oranga Tamariki staff to enhance their daily interactions with Pacific children, adolescents, and families. The app employs immersive technology to familiarize users with Oranga Tamariki’s Pacific Strategy and Integrated Pacific framework, offering insights into Pacific communities to facilitate a deeper understanding of the unique cultural heritage and identity of Pacific individuals.

• Engaging features within the app encompass the pronunciation of Pacific terms, maps featuring information on the Pacific population in New Zealand as well as links to national Pacific maps, commonly used greetings and phrases, prayers and songs, proverbs, ceremonial details, assistance with mastering vowels and consonants, and Va’aifetū (guardians and guardianship of stars). Va’aifetū serves as Oranga Tamariki’s cultural practice tool, guiding the development, assessment, and support for the workforce to effectively meet the requirements of Pacific families.
